Turning blue in Bangladesh

It’s more good news for the development of hockey in Bangladesh. Following Leandro Negre’s visit to the south asian country in January, the FIH President was able to announce that a new, blue, water-based pitch will be laid at the National Stadium in Dhaka.

Travelling with Leandro on his visit to Banglasdesh was Steven Niven, director of STI – an Australian-based company that produces Poligras turf and is a partner of FIH.

Although STI is the main developer and supporter of the USD400,000 project, the construction of the new pitch will also be supported by Olympic Solidarity, the Olympic Committees of Asia (OCA) and the Bangladesh Sport Ministry.

As a further gesture demonstrating the hockey community’s desire to help nations who are developing hockey at all levels, STI has donated a sand-based pitch to a secondary school in Bangladesh that caters for 7,000 pupils.
