Oman beat Chinese Taipei 1-0
Dhaka, March 15: Oman kicked off their Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers with a 1-0 win over Chinese Taipei at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
Khalfan Qasim Moosa scored the all important goal in the 47th minute of the match.
Oman started with an attacking mode but Chinese Taipei opted for a counter attacking strategy and the match was an evenly contested one.
Chen Yuan Fan, the Chinese Taipei skipper failed to flick the ball into an open net in the 25th minute while two minute later Rajab Basim Khatar ,the tall Omani forward made his way through the Taipei defence but his weak push was cleared from the goalline.
Oman took the lead in the 47th minute after Rajab Basim Khatar cut a fierce cross from the right flank and Khalfan taking control of the ball in the left edge of the box hit the board with a fierce reverse hit.
in the remaining minutes both the teams spoiled a number of chances.
Rajab Basim Khatar was adjudged as the man of match.

Sri Lanka was held to a 1-1 draw in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
Qatar went ahead in the 25th minute through a combined attack. Midfielder Ali Sheraj saw his fierce hit rebound off the pad of Ishara Madhushanka and unmarked forward Aslam Adnan unleashed a fierce hit to score the goal (1-0).
Sri Lanka reacted sharply and initiated a series of attacks but lack of finishing saw the chances end in failures. In the 33rd minute Shanaka Nandaslochana missed and open net with one to one situation with the Qatari goalie Ali Shazad.
In the 44th minute Sanadaruwan Priyalanka saw his hit miss the sidepost by a whisker. Three minute later Chulalankara Asanka’s slap hit was saved by Shahzad.
Three minutes before the stipulated time Sri Lankan midfielder Sanadaruwan Priyalanka equalized with a reverse hit from the edge of the box.
The remaining minutes saw the scoreline unchanged.

Dhaka, March 16: Bangladesh opened their Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers with a facile 5-1 win over Hong Kong China at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Sunday.
Bangladesh skipper, drag and flick specialist Mamunur Rahman Chayan slammed the first hat-trick of the meet. The other two goals were netted by forwards Mainul Islam Koushik and Hasan Jubaer Niloy.
Bangladesh had to wait till the 24th minute to break the deadlock till Chayan scored his first. Nannu’s push and Sarwar’s stop was enough for Chayan who dragged the ball into the roof of the post ( 1-0).
Chayan dragged his second in 32nd minute (2-0) and the third in the 45th minute. The third one, however was not a dragged one, it was low push (3-0).
Koushik flicked a cracking hit of Niloy in the 54th minute to make it 4-0 and in the next minute Niloy scored the fifth with a slap hit after Rabbi Salehin’s hit rebounded off the pad of Hong Kong’s goalie H. Andrews.
Hong Kong’s consolation was scored by skipper Md. Arif off a penalty corner in the 58th minute( 5-1).

Dhaka, March 16: Singapore registered a dramatic 3-2 win over Iran in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Sunday
Iran took the lead in the 17th minute when forward Taheridad Navid forced his way through the Singapore defence and scored the first goal with an angular hit (1-0).
In the 22nd minute Singapore earned a penalty stroke but Nur Ashik Ferdaus failed to convert it.
Iran doubled the lead in the 45 minute when forward Abbasi Reza was unmarked in the box and he unleashed a reverse hit to hit the board (2-0)
But Singapore never lost the spirit and continued to attack. In the 55th minute Salim Mohammed Haseef missed another penalty stroke. But in the very next minute Alias Muhammad Ashraf flicked a Nur Ashik Ferdaus hit into the Irani post (2-1).
In the 59th minute Saleem Muhammad Haseef equalized with a fierce reverse hit after from the edge of the box (2-2)
Singapore’s fighting effort paid off in the last minute when Timothy Goh Kai Young’s powerful hit crashed into the post after a penalty corner was initiated. It would be mentionable that the stipulated time finished before the penalty corner was initiated.

Dhaka, March 18: Iran tasted its first victory in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers beating Hong Kong China by 2-1 goals at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.
Dhaka, March 19: Sri Lanka finished their group A campaign of Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers with a 3-2 victory over Chinese Taipei at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday.
Chinese Taipei went ahead in the 18th minute with midfielder Chang Chia Ming placing the ball into the post after Hu Chun Che delivered a neat pass to him from the edge of the D-box (1-0).
However Lahiru Gihan Weerasooriya, the hardworking Sri Lankan forward scored the equalizer in the 30th minute after making his way through the defence and completing the formalities with a soft push (1-1)
Sri Lanka took the lead in the 50th minute with a tricky goal. Taking the ball to the near post from a goal mouth melee Mohamed Mulafer send the ball into the far post net with an upward push (2-1)
Lahiru put Sri Lanka on a two goal cushion in the 61st minute as he dived forward to place the ball past Taipei goalie Chen Shi Min (3-1)
Hu Chun Che pulled a goal back for Taipei in the 63rd minute finishing a combined move with a soft touch (3-2).
Sri Lanka collected four points from the three matches while Taipei remained on the three points also from same number of matches.
Lahiru Gihan Weerasooriya was adjudged as the man of the match.

Dhaka, March 19: Oman emerged as the champions of group A in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers beating Qatar 3-1 at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday.
Oman took the lead in the 14th minute after Ali Nofli Younis Ghabish capitalized on a goal mouth melee and unleashed a fierce hit from the edge of the box that rocked the board (1-0).
However Qatar rallied back to score the equalizer in the 23rd minute as Ali Sheraz scored with an upward push (1-1)
Oman continued to dominate the scenario and forward Bait S.M. Ashoor scored a field goal in the 35th minute the icing on the cake was done by Bait Awad M. Abdullah in the 70th minute.
Ali Sheraz was adjudged as the man of the match.
Oman topped the group with maximum nine points and while Qatar have only one point from three matches. Sri Lanka finished runners-up of the group with four points.

Singapore thrashes Hong Kong 6-1
Dhaka, March 20: Singapore defeated Hong Kong China by 6-0 goals in the group B match of the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
Six Singapore players scored the six goals, three in each half of the match.
Singapore took the lead in the 8th minute with a field goal Abdul Wahab M. Fauzi and in the 12th minute Noor Shah Silas Abdul doubled the lead with another field goal.
Singapore tried to stage a comeback through their skipper Arif Ali who converted a penalty corner in the 14th minute.
But Zul Kepli Nur Ashik’s reverse hit goal in the 29th minute saw Singapore back on the two goal cushion.
After the resumption Alias Muhammad Ashraf scored the 4th goal in the 41st minute with a reverse push and in the 44th minute Yuhari Mohammed Sabri dragged a penalty corner to score the fifth goal of Singapore.
In the 54th minute Salim Muhammad Haseef netted the sixth off another penalty corner.
Singapore completed their group matches with six points from three matches while Hong Kong China failed to open their account in the three group matches.

Dhaka, March 22: Bangladesh moved into the 1st position decider with 3-0 win in the tie-breaker of the last match of group B of the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
The stipulated time ended in a 2-2 draw and the match went to the shootout. Sabbir Hossain, Krishna Kumar and Sarwar Hossain scored in the tie-breaker. Mainul Islam Koushik missed. For Sri Lanka Tharanga Irosha, Sandaruwan Priyalanka and Lahiru Gihan Weersooriya failed to score as Bangladesh goalie Ashim Gope foiled their attempts.
Bangladesh faces Oman in the 1st-2nd place decider, Sri Lanka and Singapore plays the 3rd-4th place decider, Chinese Taipei and Iran plays the 5th-6th place decider and Qatar and Hong Kong China faces each other in the 7th-8th place decider on Sunday.
Sri Lanka took the lead in the 20th minute through a combined attack. Rajita Dilan Kulathunga made the hardwork in the right flank and pushed a square pass to Damith Madhusanka who coolly pushed the ball past Bangladesh goaie Ashim Gope (1-0).
In the last minute of the first half Bangladesh skipper Mamunur Rahman Chayan’s drag bounced back from the cross post.
Bangladesh restored the parity in the 43rd minute off a penalty stroke. After a tricky penalty corner Nannu’s slap hit was struck in the hand of Sri Lankan defender Tharnaga Irosha and Bangladesh won the penalty, Pushkor Khisha Mimo converted the penalty (1-1).
In the 61st minute Rabbi Salehin flicked a powerful hit of Mamunur Rahman Chayan into the Sri Lankan post (2-1).
But Sri Lanka pulled the equalizer in the 63rd minute off a penalty stroke as Lahiru Gihan Weerosooriya converted from the spot (2-2) and the match went to the tie-breakers.
Ashim Gope was adjudged man of the match.
