Oman beat Chinese Taipei 1-0

Dhaka, March 15: Oman kicked off their Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers with a 1-0 win over Chinese Taipei at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.

Khalfan Qasim Moosa scored the all important goal in the 47th minute of the match.

Oman started with an attacking mode but Chinese Taipei opted for a counter attacking strategy and the match was an evenly contested one.

Chen Yuan Fan, the Chinese Taipei skipper failed to flick the ball into an open net in the 25th minute while two minute later Rajab Basim Khatar ,the tall Omani forward made his way through the Taipei defence but his weak push was cleared from the goalline.

Oman took the lead in the 47th minute after Rajab Basim Khatar cut a fierce cross from the right flank and Khalfan taking control of the ball in the left edge of the box hit the board with a fierce reverse hit.

in the remaining minutes both the teams spoiled a number of chances.

Rajab Basim Khatar was adjudged as the man of match.

Sri Lanka held by Qatar 1-1

Sri Lanka was held to a 1-1 draw in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the  the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.

Qatar went ahead in the 25th minute through a combined attack. Midfielder Ali Sheraj saw his fierce hit rebound off the pad of Ishara Madhushanka and unmarked forward Aslam Adnan unleashed a fierce hit to score the goal (1-0).

Sri Lanka reacted sharply and initiated a series of attacks but lack of finishing saw the chances end in failures. In the 33rd minute Shanaka Nandaslochana missed and open net with one to one situation with the Qatari goalie Ali Shazad.

In the 44th minute Sanadaruwan Priyalanka saw his hit miss the sidepost by a whisker. Three minute later Chulalankara Asanka’s slap hit was saved by Shahzad.

Three minutes before the stipulated time Sri Lankan midfielder Sanadaruwan Priyalanka equalized with a reverse hit from the edge of the box.

The remaining minutes saw the scoreline unchanged.

Bangladesh beat Hong Kong 5-1

Dhaka, March 16: Bangladesh opened their Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers with a facile 5-1 win over Hong Kong China at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

Bangladesh skipper, drag and flick specialist Mamunur Rahman Chayan slammed the first hat-trick of the meet. The other two goals were netted by forwards Mainul Islam Koushik and  Hasan Jubaer Niloy.

Bangladesh had to wait till the 24th minute to break the deadlock till Chayan scored his first. Nannu’s push and Sarwar’s stop was enough for Chayan who dragged the ball into the roof of the post ( 1-0).

Chayan dragged his second in 32nd minute (2-0) and the third in the 45th minute. The third one, however was not a dragged one, it was low push (3-0).

Koushik flicked a cracking hit of Niloy in the 54th minute to make it 4-0 and in the next minute Niloy scored the fifth  with a slap hit after Rabbi Salehin’s hit rebounded off the pad of Hong Kong’s goalie H. Andrews.

Hong Kong’s consolation was scored by skipper Md. Arif off a penalty corner in the 58th minute( 5-1).

Singapore’s dramatic win

Dhaka, March 16: Singapore registered a dramatic 3-2 win over Iran in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Sunday

Iran took the lead in the 17th minute when forward Taheridad Navid forced his way through the Singapore defence and scored the first goal with an angular hit (1-0).

In the 22nd minute Singapore earned a penalty stroke but Nur Ashik Ferdaus failed to convert it.

Iran doubled the lead in the 45 minute when forward Abbasi Reza was unmarked in the box and he unleashed a reverse hit to hit the board (2-0)

But Singapore never lost the spirit and continued to attack. In the 55th minute Salim Mohammed Haseef missed another penalty stroke. But in the very next minute Alias Muhammad Ashraf flicked a Nur Ashik Ferdaus hit into the Irani post (2-1).

In the 59th minute Saleem Muhammad Haseef equalized with a fierce reverse hit after from the edge of the box (2-2)

Singapore’s fighting effort paid off in the last minute when Timothy Goh Kai Young’s powerful hit crashed into the post after a penalty corner was initiated. It would be mentionable that the stipulated time finished before the penalty corner was initiated.

Oman edge past Sri Lanka 3-2

Dhaka, March 17: Oman continued their winning spree in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers with a 3-2 win over Sri Lanka at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Monday.
Oman took the lead in the 12th minute though their second penalty corner with Rajab Basim Khatar hitting the board after Al Nofli Younis Ghabish Salmeen’s push and Khalfan Qasim Moosa’s stop ( 1-0).
Sri Lanka equalized in the 28th minute as Lahiru Gihan Weerasooriya produced a brilliant stickwork in the right flank and beat onrushing Omani goalie Fahad Khamis Salmeen with an angular hit (1-1)
Oman retained their lead in the 45th minute through their in-form forward Mahmood Ashoor Ramadhan who dragged a penalty corner into the left hand post of Sri Lankan goalie Darsana Ratnasiri (2-1).
Ramadhan, the tall forward repeated act in the 50thminute with another efficient drag off a penalty corner (3-1).
Sri Lanka tried hard to and Lahiru Gihan Weersooriya again struck in the 63rd minute as his timely deflection on a Tharanga Gunawardana hit  crashed into the post (3-2).
Oman beat Chinese Taipei 1-0 in their first match while Sri Lanka was held to a 1-1 draw with Qatar in their first encounter.

Taipei beat Qatar 2-1

Dhaka, March 17, 2014: Chinese Taipei bounced back to the winning ways with a  2-1 victory over Qatar in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Monday.
Taipei who lost to Oman 1-0 in their opening match went ahead in the 13th minute as Liu Chin-Kun made his way through the Qatar defence with a solo effort and scored the goal with a soft push past Qatari goalie Ali Shahzad (1-0).
Taipei doubled their lead in the 32nd minute with a superb effort of Lin Tse-Yen. Lin flicked a cracking hit of Lin Cheng-Yan at the roof of the Qatari post with the others still to react (2-0).
Three minutes after the resumption Qatar reduced the margin with a field goal of Stevenson Savio (2-1).
Liu Chin Kun was adjudged as the man of the match.
Taipei has three points from two matches while Qatar remained on their previous collection of one point.

Iran defeat Hong Kong 2-1

Dhaka, March 18: Iran tasted its first victory in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers beating Hong Kong China by 2-1 goals at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.

Hong Kong China took the lead in the 18th minute after midfielder Chow Ho Yin coolly collected the ball at the edge of the D and hit the 18 inches board with a controlled punch of his stick (1-0)
Iran however refused to take things lightly and staged a comeback in the 45th minute. Norouzzaadeh Reza initiated the ball in the midfield and Taheridad Navid pushed the ball past Hong Kong goalie Hayward Andrews (1-1)
It was Navid again who put Iran ahead in the 51st minute. Norouzzaadeh Reza and Navid played one-two to go past the Hong Kong defence and Navid’s angular slap hit gave Andrews no chance to react (2-1)
Norouzzadeh Reza was adjudged as the man of the match.
Iran now have three points from two matches while Hong Kong have lost both of their matches.

Dhaka, March 18: Bangladesh beat Singapore 2-0 to top the group B of the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.
Bangladesh came close to a goal in the 4th minute but Pushkor Khisha Mimo’s placing on a push of Sheikh Md. Nannu missed the side post by a whisker.
In the 21st minute Singapore midfielder Elifh Abdul Latifh went through the Bangladesh defence but his fierce hit was blocked by goalie Ashim Gope.
In the 33rd minute Bangladesh forward Krishna Kumar saw his powerful hit miss the sidepost in a one to one situation with Singapore goalie A.Suresh. Suresh denied Bangladesh drag and flick specialist Mamunur Rahman Chayan with a superb save a few minutes earlier.
Bangladesh forward Krishna Kumar broke the deadlock in the 40th minute with a solo effort in the left flank and beat Suresh with an upward push (1-0)
In the 49th minute Chayan doubled the lead off the 4thpenalty corner of Bangladesh. Nannu initiated and Sarwar stopped the ball for Chayan (2-0).
Bangladesh leads the point table of group B with six points while Singapore remained on their previous collection of three points.
Krishna Kumar was adjudged as the man of the match.

Dhaka, March 19: Sri Lanka finished their group A campaign of Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers with a 3-2 victory over Chinese Taipei at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday.

Chinese Taipei went ahead in the 18th minute with midfielder Chang Chia Ming placing the ball into the post after Hu Chun Che delivered a neat pass to him from the edge of the D-box (1-0).

However Lahiru Gihan Weerasooriya, the hardworking Sri Lankan forward scored the equalizer in the 30th minute after making his way through the defence and completing the formalities with a soft push (1-1)

Sri Lanka took the lead in the 50th minute with a tricky goal. Taking the ball to the near post from a goal mouth melee Mohamed Mulafer send the ball into the far post net with an upward push (2-1)

Lahiru put Sri Lanka on a two goal cushion in the 61st minute as he dived forward to place the ball past Taipei goalie Chen Shi Min (3-1)

Hu Chun Che pulled a goal back for Taipei in the 63rd minute finishing a combined move with a soft touch (3-2).

Sri Lanka collected four points from the three matches while Taipei remained on the three points also from same number of matches.

Lahiru Gihan Weerasooriya was adjudged as the man of the match.

Oman top group A

Dhaka, March 19: Oman emerged as the champions of group A in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers beating Qatar 3-1 at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday.

Oman took the lead in the 14th minute after Ali Nofli Younis Ghabish capitalized on a goal mouth melee and unleashed a fierce hit from the edge of the box that rocked the board (1-0).

However Qatar rallied back to score the equalizer in the 23rd minute as Ali Sheraz scored with an upward push (1-1)

Oman continued to dominate the scenario and forward Bait S.M. Ashoor scored a field goal in the 35th minute the icing on the cake was done by Bait Awad M. Abdullah in the 70th minute.

Ali Sheraz was adjudged as the man of the match.

Oman topped the group with maximum nine points and while Qatar have only one point from three matches. Sri Lanka finished runners-up of the group with four points.

Singapore thrashes Hong Kong 6-1

Dhaka, March 20: Singapore defeated Hong Kong China by 6-0 goals in the group B match of the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
Six Singapore players scored the six goals, three in each half of the match.
Singapore took the lead in the 8th minute with a field goal Abdul Wahab M. Fauzi and in the 12th minute Noor Shah Silas Abdul doubled the lead with another field goal.
Singapore tried to stage a comeback through their skipper Arif Ali who converted a penalty corner in the 14th minute.
But Zul Kepli Nur Ashik’s reverse hit goal in the 29th minute saw Singapore back on the two goal cushion.
After the resumption Alias Muhammad Ashraf scored the 4th goal in the 41st minute with a reverse push and in the 44th minute Yuhari Mohammed Sabri dragged a penalty corner to score the fifth goal of Singapore.
In the 54th minute Salim Muhammad Haseef netted the sixth off another penalty corner.
Singapore completed their group matches with six points from three matches while Hong Kong China failed to open their account in the three group matches.

Bangladesh atop group A

Dhaka, March 20: Bangladesh topped the group B of the Islami Bank  Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers with a 3-1 win over Iran in the last match of the group at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
Bangladesh earned nine points from the three matches and will play Sri Lanka in the semifinals on Saturday.
Iran piled up pressure from the very beginning and earned three penalty corners within six minutes, however they failed to score from the penalty corners.
Bangladesh hit back in the 11th minute but Iranian goalie Chazanisharah denied Bangladesh forward Pushkor Khisha Mimo with a super save.
Iran took the lead in the 26th minute as Abbasi Reza’a fierce hit from the left flank was padded off by Bangladesh goalie Ashim Gope but unmarked Taheridad Navid pushed the rebound into the post (1-0)
Iran again earned three consecutive penalty corners after the resumption but could not pull out any results.
Bangladesh equalized in the 55th minute off their seventh penalty corner. Puskor Khisha Mimo’s push was stopped by Sarwar Hossain and Mamunur Rahman Chayan dragged the ball into the post (1-1)
Bangladesh went up in the 57th minute after midfielder Romman Sarker ran down the left flank and cut the ball to Puskor Khisha Mimo who coolly placed the ball into the net with a soft push (2-1)
Sheikh Md. Nannu sealed the fate of the match with a superb reverse hit in the 70th minute after Puskor Khisha Mimo paved the way for him with a neat angular pass from the midfield (3-1)
Iranian goalie Cha Chazanisharah was adjudged as the man of the match.
Iran who earned three points will play Qatar in the 5th-6th position qualifiers on Saturday.

Taipei, Iran and Oman triumphs
Dhaka, March 22: Chinese Taipei, Iran and Oman registered victories in the play-off matches of the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
Among the eight teams Hong Kong China and Qatar were eliminated from the Asian Games procedure  as they will play in the 7th-8th place decider on Sunday.
Chinese Taipei beat Hong Kong China 6-2
In the first match of the day Chinese Taipei overpowered Hong Kong China by 6-2 goals to qualify for the 5th -6th place decider. The winners led the first half 2-0. Lin Chen Jang scored the first two goals in the 9th and 17th minutes. Lin Chen Yang and Lin Tse Yen scored another two in the 46th and 51st minutes and all the goals were field goals. Hong Kong skipper Arif Ali converted a penalty corner in the 53rd minute to make the scoreline 4-1. Chou Hunag Wei and Hu Chun Che scored the 5th and 6th goals in the 56th and 63rd minutes and Yu Chun Hin reduced the margin for Hong Kong in the 66th minute.
Iran thrash Qatar 7-1
Forward Taheridad Navid slammed the second hat-trick of the meet in the 7-1 thrashing of Qatar in the second  match of the day. Navid scored four goals in the 45th, 51st , 54th and 65th minutes. All of them were field goals. The other three goals came off the sticks of Norouzzadeh Reza (41 and 56 min) and  Vahid Fathi (18th min). The consolation of Qatar was scored by Tarek Abdrabou in the 26th minute.
Oman outplay Singapore 4-0
Oman’s prowess was too much for Singapore as the Middle East side routed Singapore 4-0 in the third match of the day . Ace Forward Rajab Basim Khatar scored thrice in the 26th, 58th and 70th minutes with all the three goals coming off penalty cornernute. s. Al Nohi Younis Ghabish scored his team’s third goal in the 67th minute.

Dhaka, March 22: Bangladesh moved into the 1st position decider with 3-0 win in the tie-breaker of the last match of group B of the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.

The stipulated time ended in a 2-2 draw and the match went to the shootout. Sabbir Hossain, Krishna Kumar and Sarwar Hossain scored in the tie-breaker. Mainul Islam Koushik missed. For Sri Lanka Tharanga Irosha, Sandaruwan Priyalanka and Lahiru Gihan Weersooriya failed to score as Bangladesh goalie Ashim Gope foiled their attempts.

Bangladesh faces Oman in the 1st-2nd place decider, Sri Lanka and Singapore plays the 3rd-4th place decider, Chinese Taipei and Iran plays the 5th-6th place decider and Qatar and Hong Kong China faces each other in the 7th-8th place decider on Sunday.

Sri Lanka took the lead in the 20th minute through a combined attack. Rajita Dilan Kulathunga made the hardwork in the right flank and pushed a square pass to Damith Madhusanka who coolly pushed the ball past Bangladesh goaie Ashim Gope (1-0).

In the last minute of the first half Bangladesh skipper Mamunur Rahman Chayan’s drag bounced back from the cross post.

Bangladesh restored the parity in the 43rd minute off a penalty stroke. After a tricky penalty corner Nannu’s slap hit was struck in the hand of Sri Lankan defender Tharnaga Irosha and Bangladesh won the penalty, Pushkor Khisha Mimo converted the penalty (1-1).

In the 61st minute Rabbi Salehin flicked a powerful hit of Mamunur Rahman Chayan into the Sri Lankan post (2-1).

But Sri Lanka pulled the equalizer in the 63rd minute off a penalty stroke as Lahiru Gihan Weerosooriya converted from the spot (2-2) and the match went to the tie-breakers.

Ashim Gope was adjudged man of the match.

Dhaka, March 23

Bangladesh top qualifiers with 6-1 thrashing of Oman
Bangladesh took the lead in the 13th minute through a penalty corner of their drag and flick specialist Mamunur Rahmam Chayan. Omam scored the equalizer in the 24th minute when forward Rajab Basim Khatar as he went through the Bangladesh defence and rocked the board with a fierce hit. Bangladesh again went ahead in the 29th minute off quick counter attack when Sheikh Md. Nannu danced down the left flank and provided a square pass to Hasan Jubaer Niloy who dived forward to send the ball into the post. The lead was extended to 3-1 in the 45th minute when Pushkor Khisha Mimo dashed down  through the midfield and scored the third goal.  Niloy made it 4-1 after Pushkor Khisha Mimo set him free in the 65th minute and Niloy scored his second. Another two goals were  scoredin the last two minutes as Mimo scored his second one in the 69th minute and Sheikh Md. Nannu netted the  6th goal in the last minute of the match.
Sri Lanka grabs 3rd position
Sri Lanka defeated Singapore  3-2 in the 3rd- 4th position decider to sending Singapore to the 4th position.
Iran finish 5th
In the 5th-6th place decider Iran triumphed by 2-1 goals against Chinese Taipei  in the second match of the day. Taipei took the lead through Hu Chun-Che in the 4th minute of the match but Iran staged a comeback riding on the goals of Yaghoub Bahrami who scored both the goals in the 25th and 57th minute. Taipei will go to the Asian Games as the 6th placed team of the qualifiers
Qatar finish 7th
Qatar beat Hong Kong China 4-2 in the 7th-8th place decider. Tarek Abdrabbou opened the account for Qatar in the 19th minute,   Hamat al  Sahoti  scored the second in the 29th minute. Chung Shun Hei reduced the margin for Hong Kong in the 39th minute but Tarq Nazir made the scoreline 3-1 for Qater in the 45th minute. Arif Ali pulled another back for Hong Kong in the 59th minute however Stevenson Savio’s 70th minute goal saw Qatar win it 4-2.
