Bangladesh emerge as the champions

Dhaka, December 7: Bangladesh emerged as the champions of the Islami Bank Men’s Junior AHF Cup beating Oman 4-0 in the 1st place decider at the Moulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium yesterday.
Oman started in an impressive note with Muhanna Naser Ali and Shafi Talib Nasib forcing their way into the Bangladesh defence and Oman earned a penalty corner in the third minute of the match. However Salmeen Ahmed Said dragged the ball wide of the sidepost.
Bangladesh absorbing the pressure started counter attacking and forward Milon Hossain standing unmarked a few feet away from Omani post failed to flick neat cross of Moinul Islam Koushik into the open net in the 9th minute.
Bangladesh took the lead in the 16th minute and it was Khorshedur Rahman, the penalty corner specialist who hit the left hand board of Omani goalie Ahmed Adil (1-0)
Defender Ashraful doubled the margin in the 24th minute off another penalty corner (2-0)
Three minutes after the resumption Khorshed deceived the Omani defence with another low drag after Mioln’s push and Sarwar’s stop, it was the the 4th penalty corner of Bangladesh (3-0)
Skipper Sarwar hit the 4th in the 50th minute after Moinul Islam Koushik galloped down the left flank and paving the way for Sarwar who was in the perfect position to unleash a powerful hit to rock the board (4-0).
Both Bangladesh and Oman will play in the Men’s Junior Asia Cup next year.
